Halting illegal trade
In conflict zones especially, cultural sites are repeatedly being looted and destroyed to a frightening degree. Not only does this mean that priceless items of cultural heritage are lost to humanity, but it also means that local people lose a significant part of their cultural roots. Germany does not wish to be a market for illegally traded cultural property.
UNESCO first designated 14 November as the International Day against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property in 2019. This occasion reminds us of the need to protect our cultural heritage. More
